Do you enjoy learning new stitches? This popcorn stitch is super fun and easy, great for projects like blankets, scarves, and cardigans.

Popcorn stitch is a fun and easy crochet stitch that adds a 3-D effect to your work. Each popcorn has a puffed texture which adds thickness when clustered together. It is ideal for making blankets, hats, and cushions, just to name a few.
The popcorn stitch is the same as making a shell stitch, using double crochet, with an extra stitch of closing the “shell”. It is actually very easy to master but it is a little more time-consuming because for every “popcorn” you need to remove the hook and find the first dc of the shell to close. Also, with the 3-D effect, it does use up more yarn, so make sure you have the extra yarn ready!

Instructions:
Foundation: Foundation: make 26 chains (This is for demonstration only. Make the length required for your project) Row 1: sc across Row 2: * Chain 1, a popcorn stitch *. Repeat from * to * to the end of the row. Popcorn stitch – make 5 dc into the same stitch. (It should look like a fan). To make the “popcorn” 3-D, pull up the loop and remove the hook from the loop, then insert your hook into the first dc of the fan. Close up the popcorn by pulling through the first stitch dc and the loose active loop. Continue until the end of the row. The next row is sc across. Basically, repeat Row 1 & Row 2 until the size of your project.
